Textbooks for Learning German

I personally am not a big fan of textbooks, since I often find them boring and I rather try to learn a language intuitively by listening to and reading comprehensible input.
However, that being said, I think they also have their use!
They give an overview over the language and help German learners to learn the grammar rules so they can check themselves.
Learn German With Humor: The Awful German Language
Learn the German language and German grammar with humor!
Many German learners have asked me how they can best learn grammar. The best way to learn grammar is intuitively, through understandable content.
However, it can also be very helpful to know the rules explicitly.
That’s why I wrote this book. I wanted to give German learners an opportunity to learn the German language effectively.
I also wanted to explain the grammatical rules to them without making it boring.
This book is based on an essay by Mark Twain. I translated, corrected, updated, expanded and commented on it. It’s almost as if I wrote it together with the great humorist!
Klipp und Klar: Übungsgrammatik Grundstufe Deutsch
Klipp und Klar* by Christian Fandrych and Ulrike Tallowitz was recommended to me by a student. He says it works well for the elementary level.
So if you are just starting out or haven’t come far with your German, it is a good idea to get this book.
A reviewer writes:
German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German
German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German* by April Wilson is another book that was recommended to me. He said the book is “amazing” at teaching grammar.
The reviews are impressive. Among them is one by someone who didn’t really want to learn German at first, but the book was so good he wanted to learn it:
