Rules of the WhatsApp Group for German Learners
The Authentic German Learning WhatsApp group is a safe environment for all German learners to talk about their progress, share ideas and tips, ask questions, discuss and most importantly, have fun together while learning German.
- Introduce yourself.
By entering your email address above, you will receive information on how to join the group.
After you signed up, I will add you to the group and you can introduce yourself there to your fellow German learners. - Always write in German.
This is to ensure we are all practicing the language. However, if you can’t write and speak German that well, feel free to write in English about the German language. - Don’t harass.
You’re not allowed to send private messages to other group members unless asked or if you had a prior relationship with the person. - Be respectful.
Treat everyone in the group with respect. No sexist or demeaning jokes. - Say something meaningful.
What is a question you’re pondering? What did you learn recently? How was your vacation? Which resources are helping you the most? We want to know!
Feel free to share as much as you like.
Political content is okay, but only if it’s also furthering language education, i.e. instead of “Vote X!”, write a text in German explaining your reasons why you think X is a good idea. If someone has gone to the effort of writing out arguments, criticize the ideas, not the person.
It’s okay to greet people once in a while, but in my opinion phrases like “Hallo!”, “Guten Tag!”, “Wie geht’s?”, “Gut, und dir?” just get boring after a while. I point this out because I think some German learners rely on these phrases too much and tell themselves they practiced German; they don’t go out of their comfort zone and don’t even use different greeting phrases. Which leads us to: - Get out of your comfort zone!
This group is for active participants.
I know, it can sometimes be hard to write in a foreign language, especially when you think you are making many mistakes. No problem, you won’t get any negative judgment in this group. It’s okay to make mistakes and they help us learn, after all.
This group depends on the participation of German learners like you. So go ahead and write something or even share audio of yourself speaking German! No sweet without sweat.
Have you made sure you read the rules above? Then put in your email address below to join the WhatsApp group and have fun learning German!
