Heute sprechen wir über das deutsche Sprichwort „Eile mit Weile.“. Was bedeutet „Eile mit Weile.“?Today, we talk about the German proverb “Eile mit Weile.”. What does “Eile mit Weile.” mean?

Der Spruch soll verdeutlichen, dass man bei zu großer Eile möglicherweise nicht sorgfältig genug ist, sodass man später nachbessern muss. Ein veraltetes Sprichwort bringt dies sehr gut zum Ausdruck: Schnell Spiel übersieht viel. Schon in mittelalterlichen Sinnsprüchen findet sich die lateinische Form “festina lente!” (Eile langsam). Wie Sueton (70-122 n. Chr.) berichtet, soll dies bereits der Wahlspruch des römischen Kaisers Augustus gewesen sein.The proverb is intended to make it clear that when you are rushing too much, you may not be careful enough and have to improve later. An outdated saying expresses this very well: Quick game overlooks a lot. The Latin form “festina lente!” (hurry slowly) is already found in the medieval aphorisms. As reported by Sueton (AD 70-122), this was already the slogan of the Roman Emperor Augustus.

Wenn du versuchst, etwas ganz, ganz schnell zu machen, dann bist du eventuell zu hektisch, zu unruhig, zu unkonzentriert und machst viele Fehler.When you try to do something very quickly, then you might be too hectic, too restless, to unfocused and make many mistakes.

Das ist nicht gut! Es ist besser, wenn du etwas zwar schnell, aber sehr konzentriert machst.This is not good! It’s better if you do something fast but very focused.

Wenn du etwas schnell machst, dann eilst du, du bist in Eile. Das Verb lautetet eilen. Der Imperativ ist: eile!When you do something fast, then you rush, you’re in a hurry. The verb is to rush. The imperative is: rush*!*

Du kennst vielleicht das Verb sich beeilen, das ähnlich ist. Wenn man sich beeilt, dann macht man etwas schneller.You may know the word to hurry up which is similar. When you hurry, then you do something faster.

Zum Beispiel: „Wir sind spät dran, beeil dich! Ich möchte nicht, dass wir unseren Bus verpassen. Wir müssen schnell zur Bushaltestelle eilen.“For example: “We’re late, hurry up! I do not want us to miss our bus. We have to rush quickly to the bus stop.”

Eilen bedeutet, etwas schnell zu machen, sich beeilen bedeutet, etwas schneller zu machen.To rush means to do something fast, to hurry up means to do something more quickly.

Und was bedeutet Weile? Eine Weile ist eine unbestimmte, kurze Zeitdauer. Ein paar Minuten können zum Beispiel eine Weile sein.And what does while mean? A while is a vague, short period of time. A few minutes can be a while, for example.
